STARTING OUR NOMAD (AKA No Home) LIFE

As mentioned in an earlier post, we only had 3 weeks to move out of our house and yet we still had ties to Fort Worth and our jobs until May 31st. With the start of summer and the Memorial Day holiday thrown in the mix, finding somewhere to park the RV within driving distance to both jobs was going to be a challenge. This created an interesting month, to say the least.

We began the first 10 days of the month by staying at an extended stay hotel. We needed a month’s worth of work clothes and we hadn’t sorted our toiletries and food from the pantry yet. So it all came with us. This particular hotel only had full size beds. One full size bed wasn’t going to work for us, so we reserved a room with 2 full size beds. With the help of a foam topper, my bed was super comfy!

Very minimal room for 10 days. That was the only place to hang clothes!

When our 10 days were up, I had to fly to Indiana for the weekend and Darin was able to stay at a friend’s apartment who was out of town. This arrangement worked out nicely. On that Sunday night, we checked into the Marriott for 1 night and on Monday Darin moved the RV out to Lake Grapevine for 5 weekdays. Notice that I said “weekdays”. The campground was already full for every weekend in May.

Not a bad view from our deck!

This gave us a little bit of practice with setting up the fifth wheel and using it. It’s always good to make sure things work before you get stuck out on the road far from home. Plus, my dad was only a phone call away when we had questions about anything.  We rely on him to be the expert since he has been doing it for so long.

Very nice place to stay if you are in the area!

Our 5 days were up and we had to park the RV back in storage. Due to the holiday, our friend was going to be out of town again for 10 days this time. He said we could stay at his apartment. We packed up our stuff and filled his entire spare room. BUT….We still had too much stuff to lug around. Having 10 days to wash clothes and sort the remaining items was perfect. When our stay was coming to an end, we only had 3 days until departure. We checked into the final hotel.

On the evening of May 31st, we will park the truck and fifth wheel in the parking lot of the hotel to prepare for our first adventure.  More details about that coming soon!  We would have left it in the storage facility for the night, but the owner said we had to leave on the 31st or else he would charge us another full month of rent. Don’t even get me started on that!
