WE SOLD OUR HOUSE IN 2 DAYS!

Thanks to our wonderful realtor, Amanda, and the booming housing market in the DFW area, we sold our house in 2 days for more than asking price, and we closed in a matter of 3 week’s time. It proves that there is some advantage to living in the top rated school district in Tarrant County! The only problem – we still had to work for another month (all of May) and had no place to call home!

Sold over asking price!

First, we rented a small uhaul and moved as much as possible into a 10 foot by 10 foot storage unit. A lot of credit goes to Craigslist and Facebook buy/sell pages to help get rid of junk, I mean furniture, home decor, and many of the upcycled items that I created over the past 22 months while living in this house! About 2 suitcases and 5 boxes remained with us and the amount of our “stuff” declined as the month of May progressed. Clothes, sheets, towels, kitchen items, some key handyman tools, the sleep number mattress, and our favorite electronics were all put into the 5th wheel to prepare for our first journey. The “inaugural first trip” to be exact! It didn’t take long for the storage unit to fill up.

We are quite the pros at packing a storage unit.  We first gained some practice doing this when we left for Central America in 2013.  But for some reason, we think this storage unit was not as big as the 10 X 10 we rented last time (at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it). Reflecting on this time around, we probably should have sold the 2 twin mattresses, day bed, and trundle unit because they seem to have taken up a bunch of valuable space. This time we didn’t have a dryer, recliner, sofa, and queen mattress, but still ran out of room.

The final days before move out, Darin came down with a bad infection and was feverish, weak, and felt like sleeping all day. I did the best I could and rented a 2nd storage unit just for the last garage items and custom wheels that Darin had removed from his jeep to try and sell. Luckily, the 5 X 10 unit was on a rental promotion for $24 and it gave me an extra month to empty it by selling some stuff, donating, and packing things up to fit in the main storage unit. If you want a not so great way to lose some weight, try moving out of a 3000 square foot house in 3 weeks while working full time!

Mission accomplished! With our few boxes and suitcases in tow, we had to find places (notice that word this is plural) to lay our heads at night until June 1st. Sounds easy, right? Not by a long shot!  That story requires its own dedicated post.

Packed to the gills!
