MURAL CAPITAL OF ALASKA

Seward is known for murals that are displayed on the walls of buildings, old and new. The Seward Mural Society prints a card with a map so you can walk up and down the streets of downtown and admire the art and take pictures of them if you want. Darin got a little Impatient while I was on a mission to find all of them (I still think I missed a couple). I hope you agree that they are so pretty and what a great idea to add character to this already cute little town.

“Wildflower Garden” by Gail Neibrugge.

These just make me happy!

My favorite on the end of a hotel – puffins!
“Window on the Bay” by Liza McElroy.

A lot of pride and history are represented in many murals. Here are some examples.

“Postcards of the Past” by Jennifer Headtke & Jeannie Shirk.
“The Iditarod Trail” by Jon Van Zyle.

Being by the bay, it is only fitting that these murals portray happy ocean creatures and all wildlife in Alaska.

“Seaward Bound” by Justine Pechuzal.
“Pony Cove” by Mike Corona.
“Friendship Across Water” by Justine Pechuzal.

The library and museum share the same building. It is absolutely gorgeous on the outside. We stopped there to watch a video about the history of the Iditarod trail.

Shimmery tile add a punch of color to the mural below.

How about these salmon on the bathroom at a campground?

This image shows the changes in salmon when they are ready to spawn.

I’ll just add the rest below and you can pick out your favorite. This is such a great idea to spend a couple hours looking for murals and getting to know the town of Seward.

“Kenai Fjords National Park” by Ed Tussey.
“Remembering Exit Glacier” by Dot Bardarson.
“The Dawn of Aviation” by Jennifer Headtke & Tim  Sczawinski.
“Apologies to Rockwell Kent”
“Raven, the Creator” by Jennifer Headtke.
“Raven Releases the Sun, Moon, and Stars” by Jennifer Headtke.
“Kenai Fjords, Where Mountains, Ice, and Oceans Meet” by Byron Birdsall.
“Fog Woman” by Jennifer Headtke.

These were really big walls that displayed more than one mural. I love the colors!

“Senior Prom” by Barbara LaVallee.
“Mount Marathon” by Susan Swiderski.
Last but not least! I don’t know the name of this one.
