FLASHBACK – COSTA RICA 2012

First of all, I want to say that Costa Rica is in our top 5 most beautiful places that we have ever visited. It is so green and lush during rainy season, and really all year for that matter. Here is a photo from the plane when we were coming in for landing.

We flew into Liberia and stayed at the Westin on Playa Conchal. We came at the perfect time – early December which is very slow for tourism for the entire country. We were upgraded to the adult, premium liquor, private dining room all inclusive package. The grounds were beautiful and we hardly saw another guest.

The beach right outside the farthest resort pool was so expansive and pristine. As you can see from our pictures, there were very few people around. Pure bliss! It became super wide at low tide and was also near a busy turtle nesting beach.

Playa Conchal is pink from the fine pieces of shell that cover the sand.

Driving or walking down the long winding entrance you can see howler monkeys in the trees and coatimundi tails sticking up above the plants and flowers. They traveled in packs and didn’t get too close to people. Here’s a sign posted to watch for the coatis.

The rooms were in buildings that had an open atrium on the inside where you went up the stairs. Every room also had a balcony. I loved the tropical feel right outside your door.

One night we were awaken around 2 am from some banging sounds. I was convinced they were washing dishes in the room next to ours. I couldn’t believe someone would make such loud noises in the middle of the night. When we got up in the morning and headed to breakfast we saw what caused all the sounds we heard. The coatis had gotten into the dishes containing leftovers that another guest had placed outside their door. There were ketchup packets and silverware scattered everywhere. We both laughed and took a mental note of what not to do while we were there.

We can’t wait to go back to Costa Rica and even live there one day.
