MY FIRST DAILY DETOUR

There’s something about firsts they say….

Darin happy to be pulling out on Thursday morning.Well, we were a day into the trip and I knew it was bound to happen. We made it safely to Salina, Kansas and ate sliders at a 100 year old burger joint (Cozy Inn) and came back to the RV to watch HouseHunters International because we knew our former homestead was going to be on – the small island of Ambergris Caye. We slept fine for the night but woke up about 5:30am and very eager to get going to our next stop. We got up and made some coffee and got dressed. Then we read the campground brochure that posted 10pm-7am as quiet hours. Darin refused to be “that guy” who makes a lot of noise while others are trying to sleep. The campground was filled with others…and most of them were square dancers. I bet that place got rowdy this weekend!

So we waited until 7am….

We got the RV packed and hitched up and were on the road by 7:15am (not bad for beginners!). So we drove and drove and drove today. Nothing to see but fields and cows and fields and more cows. Once we got into South Dakota, mother nature finally threw a few hills into the mix of cows and fields, and also a couple of deer (one alive in a field and 2 dead on the road). The temperature got up to 95 degrees with 22 mph winds.  I bet Texas is a lot cooler than we are! Did anyone else besides me think that South Dakota was going to be milder temperatures? Ugh, I should have packed more shorts…

Sorry, I detoured from the detour. We just now set up in Kennebec for the evening and I had the munchies.  We can’t really stop (even if there was a place to stop in the middle of Nebraska) and eat at a restaurant while pulling a big RV. Now I see why Buc-ees is so popular with travelers! Wide open parking, too!

I opened the pantry door and found this….

Oh no!

So my Dallas Cowboys container (probably came with peanuts at a game) filled with Waffle mix fell over and spilled to the shelf below and to the floor of the bottom cabinet. Yes, I should have used a better air tight container, but I wanted my Boys to come along for the ride.

Most people may not know that I love waffles. So much so that I bought a 10 pound bag of mix from Sam’s.  Yes, it said 10 pounds and just add WATER!  That’s my kind of cooking!! Then I had to pack my waffler maker too. I try to make everyone think that my 7 year old grandson likes waffles, but it is really me.  I do. Very much. I’m not ashamed…

So I pulled out my new little vacuum and got it cleaned up. Sure am glad I charged the battery on it while it was plugged in at the storage facility. Well, that story wasn’t too bad and not too embarrassing.  I’m sure it won’t be long for another detour….

Kinda like a Dyson, right?

  1. Glad to see you’re off to a good start. On our first ever trip, we didn’t make it a couple of miles before we had dishes flying out of the upper cabinets. Love these county roads!

    1. Today we got parked and noticed that the rod for hanging our clothes completely fell down. Made a trip to Menards and bought metal brackets to hold it. They were plastic and one bracket broke apart. Never a dull moment!
