We left the island at 2:30pm on Saturday and finally made it home just after midnight, only to wake up to freezing weather with rain. It didn’t take long for a solid sheet of ice to accumulate on all of the windshields in the parking lot. Since you don’t get an ice scraper with a rental car in Dallas, we had to run the defrost on high until it melted.
I headed out to pick up my grandson and the streets were primarily wet with a random puddle that had turned to ice. The elevated overpasses were the most susceptible to freezing over and causing accidents. On the ride home, I decided to try the highway for a quicker commute, but that was a huge mistake. Tractor trailers were all pulled over to the side of the road and my rental car was slipping and sliding. Everyone was going twenty miles per hour and I was glad that I only had four miles to drive.
The next day looked to be a little dryer and the roads were no longer sprinkled with icy spots, so we decided to head out to the trampoline park to celebrate Chase’s birthday.
The kids had a lot of fun and Savannah loved the foam pits. Their socks and knit pants were covered with tiny pieces of orange and purple foam, but the kids didn’t care. They were just happy to get out of the house after Sunday’s weather, even if we had to bundle up outside of the building.
Later that evening Chase had to go home and we started unpacking our five bags and re-packing the two largest bags. Why? Because we decided to head to south Florida. Specifically, a condo in Fort Myers. We plan to spend most of January here, and will certainly enjoy warmer days as soon as this cold front passes.
As we go exploring, I will share our adventures with everyone. There’s a lot to see and experience in this area and we can’t wait to see what’s out there!
